2023 Programme

Seven locations. Five weeks of FREE creative activity.

Around 500 young people took part in the second summer s’cool programme, which saw seven community hubs in the local area filled with energy, creativity, and music.

All elements followed the same structure with professional teaching artists guiding the young creators on their learning journey.

Let’s Make Music

A bunch of talented teens, age 14-16, gathered at a summer camp in Tileyard North and with the help of music mentors from North Star 360, they reinvented classic tunes with a Stranger Things twist.

Podcasting

A three week summer s’cool podcasting programme at Pontefract and Wakefield Library was a total hit where mini-storytellers were taught the tricks of the trade - from writing killer scripts to mastering audio production, and even demonstrating their best acting voices.

Digital Explorers

A five week course introduced children and young people to a wide range of creative and digital skills, allowing them to unlock their potential and become confident digital explorers!

summer s’cool is devised and managed by a dedicated project team at Wakefield Council, supported by staff and volunteers at local community centres.

The programme is funded by the DCMS Cultural Development Fund managed by Arts Council England and delivered by Wakefield Council.
